When people gather, they form a crowd. When butterflies gather, they can be referred to as forming a kaleidoscope. Inspired by the multi-generational journey that monarch butterflies take to migrate across North America, I created this large-scale, outdoor installation in Spring 2022.

I drew from my practice in cut paper, but here the material is not paper but rather Tyvek and other mixed media that provide iridescent and translucent colors. I also continued an exploration that began in my printmaking practice of using repeated but non-uniform images to create a collective unit.

The installation is temporary, created to last about one year in San Francisco's relatively dry but windy climate.
